Russia has never concealed the fact that it has been supplying military equipment to Syria aimed at fighting terrorism, RIA Novosti news agency cited a foreign ministry spokeswoman as saying on Monday.
The agency, citing the ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, also reported that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in a phone conversation it is “premature” to speak about Russia’s participation in military operations in Syria. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/09/07/us-russia-syria-military-idUSKCN0R70VY20150907
The USA is officially opposed to the Assad regime in Syria and tends to always be opposed to Russia supporting that regime. Russia and Syria’s President Assad have long stated that they were on the side fighting terrorism. While the Obama Administration has acted like this is not true, the reality is that since the USA has funded opposition to Assad, it, directly and indirectly, has taken steps which led to the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), now calling itself the Islamic State. The rise of that terrorist group was an ‘unintended consequence’ as far as the US government is concerned, but the reality is that is what happened.
