As regular readers of this page are aware, I have had my eye on one-time, German Defense Minister Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg since late 2009 as one who could possibly fulfill the role of the final King of the North. That leader will use religion to rise up.

PCG’s The Trumpet site, posted the following related to Herr Guttenberg:

Guttenberg: Europe Has Two Years to Become Independent
June 30, 2025
Europe has about two years to become more independent from the United States, according to former German Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. On ARD’s June 25 Maischberger talk show, Guttenberg warned that major European reforms won’t be possible without French President Emmanuel Macron, whose term ends in 2027.
Referencing the French president’s term limit, Guttenberg warned, in two years “Macron will be gone” and a far-right populist might replace him. He added that Russia’s war on Ukraine could soon extend into nato territory, so Europe needs to be able to fend off such attacks independently. This means Europe has to act now to reform the European Union into a united power capable of acting militarily.
The popular former minister gave a similar warning in a guest lecture to students and soldiers in the Lower Rhine region in March. Summarizing the speech, Rheinische Post wrote on March 20:
Guttenberg called on Germany to work with its European partners, especially France, to urgently prepare itself to ensure its own security in the short term. He said that Donald Trump’s reelection as U.S. president was the “necessary kick in our complacent European backsides”: “We have made ourselves comfortable in our own dependence. But this world is no longer as safe as we imagined it to be in our dreams. It was no longer safe in 2014, and probably not even before that. We have enjoyed our security for years—at the expense of the Americans.” …
For Guttenberg, this also includes a nuclear component as a form of deterrence. Nuclear armament in Germany is illusory, but “nuclear sharing is anything but absurd, only we would then also have to contribute financially.” France is probably the most important partner in this regard. However, this also raises many questions, such as who would decide on the potential use or even the threat of nuclear weapons. For Guttenberg, however, one thing is clear: “A celebrated policy of appeasement will not deter aggression. The Russian attack on Ukraine has shown that a ruler like [Russian President Vladimir] Putin couldn’t care less. Expansionist tendencies cannot be resisted by peaceful means.”
Guttenberg emphasized that such an approach would not be feasible with the entire EU. There would now have to be smaller “force fields” that would lead the way, similar to the introduction of the euro. French President Macron is a driving force in this regard. Now Germany must be willing and able to take on shared responsibility for Europe. “Our window of opportunity is two years, which is how long Macron will be president in France. Then we may have Le Pen.”

The fact is that Europe is working feverishly to be independent of the United States. From its working on international trade deals without the United States (see EU proposing to set standards for a new (or substantially changed) international trading organization) and its ReArm Europe (see ‘ReArm Europe’ initiative called ‘Reich;’ All or Nothing for Germany?) and other military plans (see NATO meeing–Europeans want a military independent of the United States), it is taking steps. While, officially, it will take more than two years, it could possibly be less than four years from now.

Because of some of Donald Trump’s statements, back in late 2015, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, former German Defense Minister, called Donald Trump “that blonde lunatic named Donald.”[i] And even though he did not like Donald Trump’s reelection in 2024, he said it was good news in that it was a final wake up call for Europe to improve its own security and take other steps to protect itself because of his policies and possible actions.[ii] …
Donald Trump’s rise has also spurred the Europeans to further unify among themselves. … Donald Trump has been pointed to by various European leaders as ‘proof’ that Europe needs more unification and distance from the USA. …
Now, another reality is that there are many in Europe that wanted Donald Trump to win the 2024 election as they believe that will help motivate Europe to arm itself and become more independent of the USA[iii] …
The Europeans will need to be stronger militarily, as well as use deceit, to begin their attack. They are working on a variety of military projects, partially motivated by the fact that Donald Trump was elected in 2016 and reelected in 2024.
While everything is certainly not Donald Trump’s fault, he is, inadvertently, leading the USA towards the apocalypse.

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg sees Donald Trump as a bully as well as a motivator for Europe to arm.

In November 2024, a reader sent me the following link: https://www.focus.de/politik/ausland/usa/letzter-weckruf-zu-guttenberg-nach-ampel-knall-haelt-trump-deutschland-fuer-ein-leichtes-opfer_id_260465038.html, which is in the German language. I machine-translated it and where are some excerpts:

The election in the USA has a clear winner: Donald Trump. One is rightly shocked that someone with such a character could hold one of the highest offices in the world, said former Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg in an interview with FOCUS online.
But Trump’s re-election is also a final “wake-up call” for the democratic states to tackle the homework that they had sometimes left to the USA in certain areas.
“We will be treated more harshly. We will no longer be able to rest on our laurels when it comes to security, but will have to take care of it ourselves,” says zu Guttenberg. It would have been similar if Harris had won. The fact that Germany now has to “come out of complacency” is “actually good news.” …
According to zu Guttenberg, the designated US president has “two obsessions”. Firstly, punitive tariffs on imports, and secondly, Trump wants to go down in history as a peace president.

Essentially Herr Guttenberg, like some others in Europe, has seen the reelection of Donald Trump as a wake-up call for Germany and the rest of Europe to arm. Arming is what he meant by, “We will no longer be able to rest on our laurels when it comes to security.”
