The European Union has quietly sought to reopen communication with Russia

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union has reached out to Moscow in a tentative bid to open a line of communication so the continent is not sidelined in any potential talks to end Russia’s grinding war in Ukraine, officials said Thursday.
The news emerged as Ukraine launched one of its biggest drone attacks since Russia’s all-out invasion of its neighbor more than four years ago, Russian officials said Thursday. A major Moscow oil refinery was hit for a second time in a week and commercial flights at Moscow airports were disrupted.
Against the backdrop of conflict, the EU has been quietly seeking to reopen communications with Moscow even as it doubles down on its support for Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has tried to cut out Europe and Kyiv and negotiate Ukraine’s future with Washington.
“In the past few weeks, brief contacts were made at diplomatic level to open communication channels but nothing was discussed on substance,” an EU official with knowledge of the approach said on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive move. A second official, also speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media on the matter, confirmed the Russia outreach is taking place but declined to comment further.
“In any future scenario, the EU has specific interests that will need to be defended, therefore it is important to have established diplomatic channels with Russia. The EU is not a mediator. It supports Ukraine in its efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace,” the first official added. …
Putin has repeatedly said Europe cannot play any kind of mediation role in settling the conflict but has not ruled out speaking to the EU.
“We have never refused contacts with representatives of the European Union in any format,” he said earlier this month. “We are not rejecting contacts. If they want to talk, they know how to reach us. They can pick up the phone and call. If they want to come, they are welcome to do so. It is not Russia that is refusing engagement.”

This is not a surprise.
More cooperation will happen.
And yes, this is partially because the Europeans would like USA influence reduced–and Europe will do that more than most Russians probably think is possible (cf. Daniel 11:39; Revelation 13:3-4).

Yes, I, too, expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans.
This will not end well for the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
As far as the USA and Canada go, I believe that one day a deal will occur that will return Alaska and some parts of Canada to Russia.
Although Russia sold Alaska to the United States in the 1800s, there have been reports that it wants it back.
Apparently, even Stalin may have wanted to regain it according to the following story:

Oddly, even Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff voiced concerns that Russia could end up with Alaska:

Now at that time I wrote that Donald Trump was not about to give Alaska to Russia. But the fact that Congressman Schiff brought it up shows that at least he thinks that Russia still wants Alaska back.

Joe Biden undoubtedly thought that he had the upper hand in this.
While that may or may not have been personally true for Joe Biden, he does not seem to realize that the time will come when Russia will support the military end of the USA. Russia will end up in support of Europe, for a time.
The sanctions, etc., from the Biden Administration related to Ukraine upset Russia even more, and did not stop Russia from later taking military steps.

Pyotr Tolstoy, deputy speaker of the State Duma, also reportedly proposed that “referendum” be held for Alaskan residents to vote on joining Russia.

Interestingly, Vladimir Putin appears to have rethought the sale of Alaska to the Americans. It’s not a joke: he’s trying to give the impression that his influence extends not only to his country’s future events but also plans to rewrite the past. Therefore, he signed a decree rendering the sale of Alaska illegal.
This is likely the beginning of a request for its return from the United States. …

Back in 2008, a Russian Professor has forecast that Russia would end up with Alaska:

It is certainly possible that if Russia makes a deal with the rising European Beast power that it may end up with Alaska.
Notice the following prophecy:
39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain (Daniel 11:39).
The “he” is the European King of the North (cf. Daniel 11:40). The power with the strongest military in the 21st century is the USA. Russia and Mexico to Receive US Land?
Shortly after US President Joe Biden told Ukraine it could use certain long-range weapons to attack inside of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that two can play at that game. He said that the Kremlin would consider putting ICBMs and/or other missiles in nation that are hostile to the USA. Kremlin television showed Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Mexico, and pointed to damage coming to places like Alaska. Russians have long suggested that Mexico could/should get back lands from Texas to California that the US gained at the point of a gun. Many Russians consider that Alaska should again be part of Russia. Did the Germans propose giving Mexico lands from the US during World War 1?
