As Trump blows up the Middle East, regional leaders look to Europe

“Anything’s possible” was Donald Trump’s response when asked if he would launch a new attack on Iran after the midterm elections. Fears of what a return to all-out war would bring have set off a flurry of diplomacy. Two noteworthy tracks from European and regional powers have emerged as last-gasp attempts to prevent, or at least limit, the destruction a renewed conflict would cause. If they succeed, they could become the pillars of a new “coalition of the willing” to stabilise the Middle East without America in the lead.
The negotiators
The first track brings together the E4—Britain, France, Germany and Italy—and the R4 of Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The foreign ministers of the E4+R4 met in Istanbul on October 23rd to discuss preserving the viability of a two-state solution in Israel-Palestine, ending the US-Iran war, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and defending Saudi Arabia against the latest offensive launched by the Houthis, a Yemeni rebel group.
On the European side, the addition of Italy to the E3 is welcome. It bolsters Europe’s diplomatic weight, offsetting Britain’s Brexit-induced weakness and Germany’s loss of regional influence over its staunch support for Israel. …
The Istanbul meeting also showed how far the R4 has come since it formed earlier this year in response to the shifting power balance in the Middle East. All its members but Egypt signed the Mecca Defence Alliance, a military pact, in August. The pact was recently tested when members activated the collective defence measures in response to the Houthi offensive against Saudi Arabia. The grouping signals that the region’s powers are increasingly willing to take responsibility for their own security.
The second diplomatic track opened three days after the Istanbul gathering, when security chiefs from Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia met Iran’s leaders in Tehran. The meeting was an attempt by regional powers to avert a new round of fighting by including Iran in a serious diplomatic process. It also allowed Iran to host, giving it a PR victory at a time when the Trump administration is attempting to impose a full blockade on the country. …
A coalition of the middle
Whether these tracks succeed or fail, they point to a changing reality. Most glaring is America’s absence from both meetings, as European and regional powers increasingly try to work around an unpredictable Washington rather than with it. For the R4, the Trump administration’s handling of Iran has shattered the assumption that America’s armed forces offer iron-clad protection to its allies, a reality Europeans are also confronting over Ukraine. America and Israel might have the military capacity to devastate the region, but they have proved unable or unwilling to win the peace. Yes, many nations are trying to take steps without the USA.
The Bible itself shows that the time will come when there will be a temporary ‘peace deal’ in the Middle East — and it will be confirmed by a European prince (see the article The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27). Whether or not the USA will be involved is not stated.:
26 And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate (Daniel 9:26-27).
The “prince” is a European leader who is later called the King of the North in Daniel 11:40. The ‘one week’ has generally been understood by prophecy watchers to mean a seven year deal, that is broken in the middle of it (after 3 1/2 years). This break is also confirmed in the following scripture:
31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. (Daniel 11:31)
The “him” is the European King of the North–he was the one who was the prince who confirmed the deal.
Let me also add that the European Union has a Middle East “peace envoy” and it expects to be involved in a peace deal (see https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/politics-and-diplomacy/article-751872).
Psalm 83 tells of a time when a confederation will form.
Psalm 83:4-8 states:
4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” 5 For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; 7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot.
Note that this passage of scripture is suggesting that the descendants of Israel (which not only includes the modern state of Israel, but also much of the English-speaking world, cf. Genesis 48:13-16–see a discussion of this in Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel) will be bothered by a confederation of basically Arabic/Islamic peoples from the Middle East (not Ethiopians), who will also somewhat align with a European power (see Germany’s Assyrian Roots Throughout History and Germany in Biblical and Greco-Roman Catholic Prophecy).
The old Radio Church of God published the following:
Turn to the astounding prophecy found in Psalm 83:1-8 … the coming time when ALL of Israel’s enemies would join together in an effort to crush out even the name “Israel” from the face of the earth! (Verse 4) “For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee…” (verse 5). Notice the nations making up this confederation. “Edom [Turkey], and the Ishmaelites [Saudi Arabia]; Moab [Jordan], and the Hagarenes [they anciently dwelt in the land known as Syria today]; Gebal {Lebanon}, and Ammon [Jordan] and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur [whose descendants migrated to Germany] is joined with them; they have helped the children of Lot” {Moab and Ammon in modern Jordan). Here we see that the Arab nations mentioned are allied with Germany (Assur) which we know from other prophecies will be the military leader — naturally so — of a United States of Europe…Egypt…will provoke the prophesied United Europe (Dan. 11:40). The above will be a deal which will hurt the USA.

Will Europe be Involved in Peace in the Middle East?
EuroNews reported, “It’s the right time for the EU to step in and bring peace to the Middle East,” because Europe needs to move towards international leadership and the United States moves have basically resulted in a big mess. The Palestinians also prefer the Europeans to the Americans when it comes to dealing the Israel and Netanyahu’s government. Does the Bible point to a European confirming a peace deal in the Middle East? Is this a temporary, seven-year, deal that will be broken in the middle. Is confirmation of the deal by a “prince” setting in motion the timing of the Great Tribulation and later the return of Jesus and the establishment of the millennial Kingdom of God? What did Daniel the prophet write? Will the breaking of this deal precede the destruction of the USA and its British-descended allies? What happens after the confirming prince becomes the King of the North? Will this also be the Beast power that will conquer an Arabic power to arise called the King of the South per Daniel 11:40-43? Who are the “mighty” and who are the “holy” people that the Beast will destroy? Will the deal a European prince confirms be broken according to scripture?
