The “Mad King” of the West
Donald Trump flipped and flopped again.
He announced a 20% fee for all ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, 13th of July. He withdrew the order on Tuesday, 14th of July.
The oil market gyrated during the day and some “smart” folks made yet another killing with the oil futures.
By this point, people are already used to such flip-flops. Wall Street coined the term TACO Index, which tracks how market panics force Trump’s policy U-turns.
A few prominent “flip-flops” from his most recent presidency include:
– The global tariff retreat from “Liberation Day” when he announced sweeping tariffs on imports, including duties on Chinese goods over 100%, but altered course merely days later with a 90-day cause.
Trump posted on Truth Social telling the public and investors “BE COOL”, like “what is the fuss about, dummies?”
– The Nvidia chip ban when Trump barred Nvidia from selling H20 GPUs to Chinese buyers, in April 2025, to protect US “technological supremacy”.
By July, he did a 180, lifting the restriction and demanding 15% Nvidia’s Chinese chip revenues instead. 07/15/26 https://www.unz.com/bhua/the-mad-king-of-the-west/

The Washington Post reported in late 2016 that Donald Trump admired Richard Nixon. It also reported:

Donald Trump’s foreign policy statements have unsettled many—in the USA as well as foreign nations. He is believed by many to be more unpredictable than Richard Nixon. Many have rightly pointed out that he often acts as a bully. …
One of the unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs and other trade matters is that it is motivating nations he has threatened to look to trade more with each other.

But the reason for this post was not to highlight Donald Trump’s inconsistencies.

The reason was because the first news item used the term ‘King of the West.’

Here are some quotes from my article: Who is the King of the West?:

Is there a nation that could be called ‘the King of the West’?
Jesus taught:
29 They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. (Luke 13:29, NKJV throughout unless otherwise indicated)
So, the Bible tells of people from all around the world, including those from “the west” to be in the coming Kingdom of God.
Students of Bible prophecy are aware that the the Bible talks about end-time kings of the North (Daniel 11:40), South (Daniel 11:40), and East (Revelation 16:12). These kings are portrayed as political-military leaders, as opposed to being primarily religious leaders.
That being said, Bible prophecy students are aware that the Bible does not specifically mention an end-time “king of the west” by name.
But could there be one?
Protestant pastor John Hagee, who was wrongly involved with blood moons (see Blood Moons, Eclipses, and Prophecy) and other prophetic matters (like he considers Russia the King of the North–but that is not the case: Is Russia the King of the North?), claims “The King of the West is the Anti-Christ” ( Hagee J. The King is Coming, Church! https://www.jhm.org/Articles/2018-07-01-the-king-is-coming accessed 01/14/19).
For many reasons, including the fact that the final Antichrist is primarily a religious leader (though with with great political ties), the final Antichrist is NOT the ‘king of the West.’
Now if there is a “King of the West,” who is it? And what happens to this king?
Before going further, consider that there is a major portion of the world called the Western Hemisphere–and one particular country dominates at least the northern half of that hemisphere–that came out of the United Kingdom.
Yet as far as prophecy goes, is the United States of America (USA), Canada, and/or Great Britain (UK, officially now called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) mentioned in end-time prophecy?
If so or if not, what happens to the USA, Canada, and the UK? …
Before going further, let it be mentioned that the Bible does tell of “kings from the east” (Revelation 16:12, NKJV), literally “the kings who are from the rising of the sun” (Revelation 16:12, Young’s Literal Translation) who will be involved in militarily preparing for Armageddon (Revelation 16:12-16). And when we look at the nations on the eastern side of Asia in the 21st century, the royal title “king” is rarely used. Furthermore, while the Bible calls an end time figure the “King of the North” in Daniel 11:40, it specifically says he will not be given “the honor of royalty” in Daniel 11:21.
Therefore, from a biblical perspective, a “king” does not literally need to be a king in the strictest sense.
So consider that, while the USA does not officially have royalty, it is the leading military power in the world today, and certainly in the Western Hemisphere. It is a nation that is west of Jerusalem, and in those senses it is the “King of the West.”
The USA has essentially been the King of the West since sometime between the first and second world wars when Great Britain ceased controlling much of its empire. Others noted that after World War II, “The U.S. was now the de facto leader of the West” (Shah A. Control of Resources; Supporting Dictators, Rise of Terrorism. Global Issues, December 30, 2002. http://www.globalissues.org/article/260/control-of-resources-supporting-dictators-rise-of-terrorism viewed 05/03/2011).
And many this century have recognized that, “America is the leader of the West” (Chiu E. Emily’s Islam, Media, and the West Blog. September 29, 2008. http://blogs.nyu.edu/blogs/eyc221/ila/2008/09/ viewed 0503/2011). The “United States” is “the leader of the west” (Cox RW. A Canadian Dilemma: The United States or the World. International Journal. The Great Tribulation looks to begin with the following from the Book of Daniel (the “he” is the King of the North):
39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain (Daniel 11:39).
Who has the strongest fortresses?
The strongest fortresses in the world belong to the USA and to a much lessor extent, its English-speaking allies (for a more detailed explanation of why the USA and its Anglo-allies are involved, as well as the dividing of their lands, please see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel). Isaiah warns that “The fortress also will cease from Ephraim” (Isaiah 17:3)–but unlike Manasseh, Ephraim simply does not have the strongest fortresses.
This passage about the strongest fortresses in Daniel 11:39 cannot be referring to the Europeans as they support the King of the North, nor can it be referring to the Russians, Chinese, or other Asians as they do not get involved until verse 44 of Daniel 11.
This is passage in Daniel 11 shows the end of the USA–this is why, although we see references to the North (Daniel 11:40), South (Daniel 11:40), and East (Revelation 16:12) after this, there IS NO REFERENCE TO THE KING OF THE WEST.
Furthermore, let’s look at what comes after Daniel 11:39 and notice also that it is NOT the USA that the King of the North later fears:
40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. 44 But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him. (Daniel 11:40-45)
That reference the north and east is to Russia, China, and others in the East.
Russia is NOT the one label the King of the North as it would NOT be troubled by a power north or east of it as it is in the top of the north and as far east as land goes.
To demonstrate this further, notice the following:
50:41 “Behold, a people shall come from the north, And a great nation and many kings Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth. 42 They shall hold the bow and the lance; They are cruel and shall not show mercy. Their voice shall roar like the sea; They shall ride on horses, Set in array, like a man for the battle, Against you, O daughter of Babylon.
43 “The king of Babylon has heard the report about them,
And his hands grow feeble;
Anguish has taken hold of him,
Pangs as of a woman in childbirth…”(Jeremiah 50:41-43).
Thus, the European empire (the “daughter of Babylon”) is to be destroyed by a northern (apparently Russian led) and eastern force.

The USA is NOT a threat to end time Babylon in Jeremiah 50:41-41 nor Daniel 11:44-45, because the USA is gone!
Of course, many do not believe that the USA can ever be taken over. But all should consider that this type of view is also prophesied:
10 All the sinners of My people shall die by the sword, Who say, ‘The calamity shall not overtake nor confront us.’ (Amos 9:10)

The USA is west of Jerusalem, in a major sense is currently the “King of the West,” and apparently is the Western naval power of Daniel 11:30–yet no King of the West seems to exist after the King of the North eliminates those with the strongest fortresses (Daniel 11:39). Yet, there still are end-time kings of the North (Daniel 11:40), South (Daniel 11:40), and East (Revelation 16:12).
Unless the English-speaking peoples repent of their sins the Bible teaches that their nations will be destroyed (see also Hosea 8:1-13).
