European nations have declared that with a recent EU change, they will take advantage of it to spend more on military matters:
Sixteen EU countries to trigger clause increasing defence spending

The 27-member bloc is allowing member states to spend up to 1.5% of their GDP on defence over the next four years without the usual budgetary limits.
More than half of all EU countries intend to make use of an exemption allowing them to go over budgetary limits in order to boost military spending, the European Council has said.
The European Commission proposed earlier this year that members could use an emergency clause to spend up to 1.5% of their GDP on defence investments over the next four years without breaching rules on public deficits and debt.
The move came after the Trump administration suggested that Europe should pay more to defend itself and amid security concerns over Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
Germany and Poland are leading the group of countries that have indicated they want to do so … Hungary and Slovakia … are notably listed as well.
The other EU member states who have decided to request the activation of the so-called escape clause include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Greece, Portugal, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Bulgaria, the European Council said.
“We remain open to further exemption requests,” the EU’s Economic Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis added. …
Although military spending has increased within the EU by 31% since 2021, many member states are keen to increase defence expenditure further.
Incoming German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that Europe must act quickly for the sake of its security.
“In view of the threats to our freedom and peace on our continent, the rule for our defence now has to be ‘whatever it takes,'”‘ he said …
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke plainly about the dangers Europe found itself in.

Yes, the Europeans are now getting serious about becoming a military power.
While many think that the age of Europe being a military power is over, the Bible teaches otherwise:
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:1-4)
The sea referred to above is called the “Great Sea” in Daniel 7 associated with the Beast. The “Great Sea” that bordered the ancient lands of Israel (Numbers 34:6-7; Joshua 1:4; 9:1; 23:4; Ezekiel 47:13-16) is the Mediterranean Sea–and that is the sea that Daniel was referring to.
The prophecy in Revelation 13 is referring to a rearmed European power.
Interestingly in March, Europe announced its Readiness 2030/ReArm Europe program:

Notice that the Europeans want to spend their funds on European military weapons and not on weapons from the USA or UK. This is one way for Europe to support its industrial base which may be hurt by tariffs from the Trump Administration.
As far as having a “colossal defense plan,” Europe wants to become a military superpower–and it is prophesied to become such.
Europe is now publicly declaring it wants its to spend more money on its military, that it wants its own army and that it will produce a lot of its own weapons, with a budget plan to do so.
Here is a specific prophecy in the Bible that shows that the final power in Europe will end up with a large army:
25 “He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. (Daniel 11:25)
40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; (Daniel 11:40)
The “he” above is the European King of the North Beast power. Notice that he will control a “great army” with “many ships” and other military weaponry. Weaponry that the EU is working on making now!
Although Europe is NOT yet ready to conquer, the Bible says that this European Beast power will reorganize and is going to surprise the world with its military success:
12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)
The time will come when the European Beast, King of the North, power will beat the USA militarily.
Beat the USA militarily?
Yes.
The following prophecy is one that shows the coming defeat of the USA:
39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. (Daniel 11:39)
The “he” above is the European King of the North Beast power. The power with the strongest military fortresses in the 21st century is presently the USA. But it will be defeated by Europe (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).
European leaders are unknowingly preparing for this.
Fear is a powerful motivator and statements and actions by the Donald Trump Administration have been pushing Europeans to take bold steps militarily.
