Is the Iran war a holy war?

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Mr. Dupuie:

Dr. Thiel, is the Iran war a holy war?

Dr. Thiel:

Not from a biblical perspective. However, from people involved, yes. Over in Iran, the leadership does consider this to be a holy war. They believe that they need to fight the United States and Israel. They think they need to conquer Israel. They think by causing chaos that this is going to lead to an Islamic leader coming out of suspended animation called the Iman Mahdi, who's going to help unite the world for Shiite Islam. And so from the Iranian perspective, it's a holy war, at least their government presents.

Now, what about the United States? Well, we have political leaders in the Trump administration and in the Senate, amongst other places. I'm not going to mention them by name or their positions who believe that this is a war that God wants. It's a holy war. And the point of this war is for the United States to destroy this aspect of Islam so the United States can rise up and better rule the world.

And that's not what the Bible teaches, but so we've got religious zealots, if you want, on both sides of this. Now, I don't think US President Donald Trump's actually a religious zealot himself, but there are others around him who are. So there are people who consider this a holy war. Instead, I would say what's going on between Iran, the United States, and Israel will set up for other things to happen in the end. But no, Islam is not about to dominate the world, and no, the United States will not truly dominate the world even after it more fully neutralizes Iran.
