This is the fourth part of a multi-sermon series intended to cover the Book of Daniel. This sermon covers each and every verse of the 9th chapter of the Book of Daniel. In its introduction, Dr. Thiel mentions that the old Radio Church of God considered this chapter as proof that Jesus was the Messiah. Dr. Thiel discusses the 70 years of desolations mentioned in verse 2, cites a source showing that pointed to a 66-67 year fulfillment from 605 -538, and explains why there could be 3 1/2 years left to be fulfilled. He reads scriptures concerning Daniel's prayers for his people, with the angel Gabriel being sent to provide him information. The 62 and 7 weeks of Daniel are discussed, with the period of 483 years (69 weeks) being from the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem given by Artaxerxes in 457 B.C. going until 27 A.D., which looks to be the year Jesus began His ministry. For the 62 weeks (434 years) from when the Messiah was to be cut off, Dr. Thiel points to the time Jerusalem was rebuilt c. 404 B.C. to c. 31 A.D. Dr. Thiel explains that the fact that the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in August of 70 A.D. proves that Daniel 9 pointed to the Messiah coming before then. He also cites Jewish scholars who pointed to the time of Jesus being the time the Messiah was expected, based on prophecies in the 9th chapter of Daniel. Much time was devoted to discussing who the prince of Daniel 9:26 is and why, despite the views of many Protestants and COG groups, it was not Jesus, but a European leader. Dr. Thiel cites scriptures which support the view that the covenant/treaty of Daniel 9:27 is a peace deal. He also explains what the 70th week is. He cites the 3rd century bishop Hippolytus of Rome as perhaps the earliest written source pointing to the deal of Daniel 9:27 being seven years. He discusses why, even though they want to cede no territory to Israel, that Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood will accept a temporal deal. He also cites Islamic prophesies that point to a deal being made by an Islamic leader and a European professing Christian one, and that it will be broken. Dr. Thiel gives eight reasons why most people, including most Christians, will not recognize that the deal of Daniel 9:27 will be confirmed. He also explains that only the Philadelphian remnant is promised protection from the coming "hour of trial" (Revelation 3:7-10), and that most true Christians, despite keeping the commandments, will not be protected then per Revelation 12:14-17. He also explains that the Bible DOES NOT SAY THAT THE BEAST WILL BROKER THE DEAL OF DANIEL 9:27, only confirm it, and that those who think otherwise will not understand the deal when it is confirmed (like, if perhaps, it has something connection to the so-called Abraham Accords of the Donald Trump Administrations). Dr. Thiel reminds people that they are not to be "independent Christians," but should gather together before the decree to flee is issued per Zephaniah 2:1-3. He encourages Christians to pray to be accounted worthy to escape what is coming per Jesus' words in Luke 21:35-36 and be doers of the word (and not hearers only) per James 1:22-25.
