There are naturally produced toxins. Notice the following:
July 31, 2026
Medical Health Officer for the region, Dr. Stanley Enebeli explains Microcystin a toxin produced in large quantities by a type of blue-green algae called cyanobacteria. As a result, these algae blooms pose a risk to public health. …
“Contact with blue-green algae can cause skin and eye irritation, allergic reactions or rashes,” Enebeli said. “Swallowing contaminated water can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps. It’s important if you do experience any of these symptoms or health effects after exposure to seek medical attention immediately.”
The toxin can affect anyone, however, immunocompromised people may be at a greater risk. https://discoverweyburn.com/articles/health-officials-warn-of-toxin-produced-by-blue-green-algae
There are also known toxic plants that can kill, such as certain varieties of poisonous mushrooms.
Most people can avoid them.
However, modern food processing and supply sometimes also result in getting ill from normally healthy foods like lettuce and berries (e.g. https://www.allrecipes.com/frozen-greenwise-berry-recall-e-coli-july-2026-12031374). Such contaminated foods are deceptive as they generally give no warning.
And then there are man-made toxins, which are seemingly impossible to completely avoid.
Notice the following:
The invisible assault: How everyday toxins sabotage your health from the inside out
In an age where chronic illness rates climb despite medical advances, a growing chorus of medical professionals and researchers point a finger not at viruses or genetics alone, but at the insidious, cumulative poison of modern life. The threat is not confined to industrial accidents or contaminated waste sites; it is embedded in the fabric of daily existence—in our food, our homes and our personal routines. This silent exposure places a relentless burden on the body’s core systems: the gut, the liver and the hormonal network, leading to a cascade of health failures that medicine often struggles to diagnose, let alone cure.
The historical context for this crisis is a post-World War II explosion in chemical innovation, where synthetic compounds were hailed as miracles of convenience and progress. From pesticides that boosted crop yields to plastics that revolutionized packaging and durable, non-stick cookware, these substances promised a better life. However, this chemical revolution occurred with little forethought about long-term biological consequences. As society sealed buildings for energy efficiency and embraced processed foods for convenience, it inadvertently created a concentrated, inescapable environment of novel toxins. The body’s ancient detoxification pathways, evolved over millennia to handle natural threats, are now overwhelmed by a constant barrage of synthetic compounds. …
Many synthetic chemicals are molecular mimics, acting as endocrine disruptors. Compounds like Bisphenol-A (BPA) from plastics, parabens from cosmetics and phthalates from synthetic fragrances can bind to hormone receptors, falsely signaling or blocking messages related to reproduction, metabolism and stress response. This interference is linked to declining fertility, thyroid disorders, early puberty and metabolic syndromes like obesity and diabetes. These chemicals are particularly dangerous during developmental stages, yet exposure begins in the womb and continues unabated. …
“Environmental toxins are harmful substances present in our surroundings, including air, water and consumer products,” said BrightU.AI‘s Enoch. “Common examples include air pollutants, pesticides, heavy metals and chemicals in plastics. Exposure to these toxins can pose significant risks to human health and the environment.” https://www.naturalnews.com/2026-07-30-how-everyday-toxins-sabotage-health-inside-out.html
Describing toxicity as “the most underrated threat facing humanity”, a new report has warned that the “contamination of humans is endemic” and that the risks to planetary and human health are “widely underestimated”, with the impact of pesticide use on cancer rates potentially rivalling that of smoking.
More than 3,600 synthetic chemicals from food contact materials, such as packaging and pesticides, are present within human bodies globally, the report revealed, 80 of which are feared to be especially dangerous.
Jeremy Grantham, co-founder and chair at The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, added: “Toxicity is the most underrated threat facing humanity.” 08/04/25 https://www.the-independent.com/news/health/cancer-alzheimers-risk-toxic-chemicals-food-water-invisible-tsunami-b2800237.html
There is also the cumulative problem of microplastics. While basically inert, years of accumulation and exposure can cause health problems (e.g. Microplastics in Blood Identified as Factor in Severe Heart Attacks and The Lancet asserts: Plastic causing “disease and death from infancy to old age” that costs $1.5 trillion a year; Jeremy Grantham: “Toxicity is the most underrated threat facing humanity.”) .
Furthermore, there are avoidable toxins that many, mainly women use, which are found in cosmetics.
The Book of Ecclesiastes has the following as part of its introduction:
2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher;
“Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2)
And vanity of appearance is something that Satan deceived himself by:
12 … ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“You were the seal of perfection,
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The sardius, topaz, and diamond,
Beryl, onyx, and jasper,
Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.
The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes
Was prepared for you on the day you were created.14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers;
I established you;
You were on the holy mountain of God;
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created,
Till iniquity was found in you.16 “By the abundance of your trading
You became filled with violence within,
And you sinned;
Therefore I cast you as a profane thing
Out of the mountain of God;
And I destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the fiery stones.17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;
You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; (Ezekiel 28:12-17)
But it is not just Satan who has been affected by vanity of beauty.
While males are certainly often vain, females in many societies are immensely focused on outward appearance.
Yet, the Bible teaches:
4 … glorious beauty is a fading flower (Isaiah 28:4)
Looks do not last, but many spend a lot of time on their outward appearance. And while that can please them, and sometimes others, there are risks.
A couple of decades ago, a chiropractor telephoned me and asked if she could send me a copy of her December 2020 anti-cosmetic book titled Dying to Look Good.
She sent it and I read it.
Basically, the book warned of the dangers that many of the commonly used chemicals in cosmetics posed many health risks. Specifically, it classified over 1200 cosmetic ingredients according to safety, whether they may cause allergic reactions, whether they have been reviewed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Panel and if they are approved or recognized as safe by the FDA. It also lists over 750 cosmetic and personal care products that have been evaluated as “safe.” Related to it, the author claimed:
Many of the ingredients in the cosmetics, toiletries and personal care products you use every day are harmful. Studies have found that nearly 50% of cosmetic products evaluated were contaminated with the cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane. Cosmetics, toiletries and personal care products do not require FDA approval before they are sold to the public. A harmful product can only be removed from the market if the FDA can prove in a court of law that the product is harmful, improperly labeled or violates the law. …
You can’t depend on the FDA or the manufacturers to make sure the products you buy are safe. It’s up to you! Protect your family’s health.
What about the situation today?
Well, many dangerous chemicals are still used.
And most, while not dangerous in small amounts, can be in large amounts.
Furthermore, USA Today reported the following:
Ozempic is giving people ‘temporal hollowing.’ Doctors are sounding an alarm.
July 31, 2026
You might have heard of “Ozempic face.” But how about Ozempic temples?
In the era of GLP-1 medications, like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro, plastic surgeons say they’re seeing an increase in patients seeking a niche treatment in a high-risk area of the face. The issue? “Temporal hollowing,” or “temporal wasting” − which, they say, involves loss of volume in the temples, due to rapid weight loss.
And how important, exactly, are full temples to a youthful complexion? Apparently, very.
“A patient will come in and go, ‘Why do I look disturbed? Why do I look suddenly older? What is it about me?’ ” says Dr. Terry Dubrow, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California, …
The temples are close to the brain, but they’re often the last thing on patients’ minds when they come in for a plastic surgery consultation. Often, surgeons say, patients who have experienced rapid weight loss on GLP-1s say they know something’s different about their face, but they can’t pinpoint what.
Though people rarely notice or think about temples, Dubrow says the fullness of that facial region communicates significant information. Slight changes in depth can make someone look older or even dehydrated, he says.
“It takes your face out of its youthful balance,” he says. “When you look at a youthful face − when you look at kids, babies − the temple area is very full.”
In short, he adds, temporal hollowing is the “hallmark of aging, hallmark of illness, hallmark of dehydration and the absolute hallmark of the Ozempic face.”
But overcorrecting temporal hollowing by adding too much fat or filler can cause problems as well, says Dr. Krishna Vyas, a plastic surgeon at Blechman Plastic Surgery. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/health-wellness/2026/07/31/ozempic-temporal-hollowing/91113282007/
Yes, these weight loss drugs can make you look strange and even older.
Let’s consider some spiritual analogies.
Naturally poisonous plants can be analogous to known and obvious sins like stealing or murder. People know they are wrong, and most people do not actively do them–though the prisons are filled with people that do.
Contaminated foods are deceptive. They catch people unawares. They remind me of the following:
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8, NKJV)
Related to Satan, the Bible calls him, “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2).
His influence, like air pollution, is everywhere. We all have to breath, but we all also live in the world. Exposure to the world’s society can be toxic.
Jesus prayed to the Father and stated:
14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. (John 17:14-15)
One of the ways this is done was written by the Apostle James:
6 … “God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:6-7)
We are to resist Satan’s proud and vain ways.
This is one reason that the Church of God has urged only minimal use of cosmetics.
Entertainment can be spiritually toxic. It often encourages lust, which is sin (Matthew 5:28). Notice we are told by the Apostle Paul:
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, (Romans 6:12-13)
So, it is not that we never sin, but like physical toxins, we should strive to have as little sin as we can–and we are not to present ourselves to sin either.
Notice the New Heart English Bible translation of something that the Apostle Peter wrote:
8 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8, NHEB)
Self-control is something that we need and it will help us not fall into Satan’s traps. One way to do so is to agree with the pslamist:
3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; (Psalm 101:3)
There is a concept in toxicology called the total toxic threshold.
Basically it states that the human body can tolerate limited amounts of many toxins before adverse effects occur. Similarly, just like we can handle being in a toxic sinful society, once a certain quantity is reached the body gets ill. As society becomes more toxic, we have to be careful about its influences and entertainment. We are warned by the Apostle Paul to come out the world, be separate, and not touch the unclean (2 Corinthians 6:17).
Paul also wrote:
33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” (1 Corinthians 15:33)
How much sin do you think God wants you to tolerate?
Jesus taught:
48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)
We are to strive for no sin and should also strive to avoid the many of the toxins we can in our 21st century world.
Although it has been stated that, “Toxicity is the most underrated threat facing humanity,” sin and Satan’ role in it are perhaps the most invisible causes of a physically and spiritually toxic world.
Yet, God has a plan.
And part of it, is that during the millennial Kingdom of God, Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:3) and the resurrected saints will be teaching the right way to live (cf. Isaiah 30:20-21).
Pray, as Jesus said, for that Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).
