After hearing a lot of rhetoric and threats from US President Donald Trump, the Europeans are working to establish a much stronger military presence on Greenland:

European troops arrive in Greenland as US and Denmark talks fail to resolve dispute

European military personnel began arriving in Greenland on Thursday, hours after a meeting between US, Danish and Greenlandic officials in Washington failed to resolve what Denmark’s foreign minister called “fundamental disagreement” over the mineral-rich Arctic island.
France, Sweden, Germany and Norway announced Wednesday they would deploy military personnel as part of a reconnaissance mission to Greenland’s capital Nuuk.
Germany’s defence ministry said Thursday that the reconnaissance mission to Greenland by several European NATO members aims “to explore options for ensuring security in light of Russian and Chinese threats in the Arctic”.
A 13-strong Bundeswehr reconnaissance team would deploy to Nuuk from Thursday to Sunday at Denmark’s invitation, the ministry said.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday France would soon send more “land, air, and sea” forces to join the military exercise in Greenland. …
The deployment was announced the same day the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland met with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, speaking after leaving the White House, said a US takeover of Greenland was “absolutely not necessary.”
“We didn’t manage to change the American position. It’s clear the president has this wish of conquering Greenland,” Løkke told reporters. “We therefore still have a fundamental disagreement, but we also agree to disagree.” …
Trump, speaking after the meeting which he did not attend, for the first time sounded conciliatory on Greenland, acknowledging Denmark’s interests even as he again said he was not ruling out any options.

The Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, said Greenland’s defence was a “common concern” …
Troops from France, Germany, Norway and Sweden, … to Greenland, a largely autonomous territory of the kingdom of Denmark, on Thursday. Denmark also announced it would be increasing its military presence.
It comes after a difficult meeting in Washington on Wednesday between the foreign ministers of Greenland and Denmark, Vivian Motzfeldt and Lars Løkke Rasmussen, and the US vice-president, JD Vance, and secretary of state, Marco Rubio.
The visit was intended to smooth relations between Denmark and Greenland and the US, but it did not appear to have had the desired effect. Afterwards, Trump reiterated his previous comments that the US “needs” Greenland for national security, adding that Denmark could not be relied on to protect the island and that “something will work out”.
In a statement released on Thursday, Frederiksen said it was “not an easy meeting” and that a working group was now being set up to discuss how Arctic security could be improved.

So, Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, said that they cannot allow the USA to takeover Greenland. And Europe has begun to send troops and develop plans.

Donald Trump has greatly offended the Europeans on this matter. Having the Europeans to immediately send troops after meeting with top US officials is another unintended consequence of Donald Trump’s statements.

As Danish and Greenlandic ministers prepared to face JD Vance in the White House, the question was would Europe finally choose between Europe and the US? Will its leaders have the courage to tell the full truth – that the US isn’t simply abandoning its allies and destroying the international order but is now in the position of active and hostile predation by force – and more importantly, to act on it? To offer Denmark moral and material backing, and Greenland a future of self-determination and membership, rather than subservience to US resource plunder?
Donald Trump has already set the tone by saying the US will seize Greenland “one way or the other”, and no part of the triumvirate around him is trying to hide their imperial intentions any more. …
If the US actually attacks Denmark by invading Greenland, and declares war on the EU, a treaty-bound defensive alliance, the hand of history will be forced. …
And if the US doesn’t attack Denmark, Europe’s best chance of surviving as a free and open continent in an imperial world is still to force the rupture with the US, force the consequences, and force the federalism anyway. … it is time for Europe to tell the US to leave its European military bases, throw off the yoke of US tech billionaires, begin a concerted push to fund public media as a form of informational defence – and maybe even expand the Erasmus programme into a general purpose European civil service corps. Everything short of actual combat should be considered, because “annexing Greenland” is a symptom of American fascism, and others will follow.
A generous interpretation of how Europe’s political leaders have spent the past year is that they have been playing for time to prepare. Donald Trump is pushing away allies and offending a lot of them. More and more are seeing him act as a bully–and the European Union is taking steps.

Greenland
There is also something referred to as the “law of unintended consequences.” There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump’s statements and actions.
Consider, for one example, that after his reelection, Donald Trump stated that the United States needed to have Greenland for defense and economic purposes. Not only did that offend the governments of Denmark and Greenland, the Danish government then announced that it would greatly increase the amount of money it would spend on the defense of Greenland.[i]
On January 7, 2025, Donald Trump refused to rule out military or economic actions to acquire Greenland.[ii] The next day, European leaders warned they would not tolerate an attack on Greenland and that the continent of Europe was strong.[iii] … One longer term consequence of Donald Trump’s rhetoric may be that the Europeans could decide that Greenland would be a useful place to conduct surveillance on the US and Canada.
Additionally, it is also possible that Greenland could be used as a base to 1) interfere with US military satellite communications, 2) possibly neutralize some US military moves in Greenland, or even 3) a place to also launch an attack against the US, Canada, and/or even the UK. The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)—some statements by Donald Trump are pushing “friends” (NATO allies) into being enemies. …
The USA will be attacked by “friends” consistent with the following:
1 How lonely sits the city
That was full of people!
How like a widow is she,
Who was great among the nations!
The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!
2 She weeps bitterly in the night,
Her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers
She has none to comfort her.
All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).
Notice the one who was “great among the nations” will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.
The USA was prophesied to be “great” in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[v]

Yes, the Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2). Donald Trump offending the Europeans is leading to that.

Europe had basically no military interest in Greenland before Donald Trump.

Now, it is putting troops there and looks like it will use or build military bases there.

And prophetically, a more militarized Greenland could play a role in the prophesied destruction of the United States (cf. Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-11).
