EU defies Trump’s Ukraine peace deal

The EU has reportedly rejected the Ukraine peace deal drafted by the White House, putting forward its own set of conditions for a potential agreement.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement on Sunday as US officials were discussing Washington’s proposal with EU and Ukrainian representatives in Geneva, Switzerland. …
Media outlets have claimed that, among other things, it calls upon Kiev to withdraw troops from the part of Russia’s Donbass it still controls, downsize its military, and shelve its NATO aspirations in exchange for Western security guarantees.
In a statement published on X, von der Leyen specifically rejected all those conditions. “We have agreed on the main elements necessary for a just and lasting peace and Ukraine’s sovereignty,” she stated, adding that Ukraine’s borders cannot be changed “by force” and that no limitations can be placed on Kiev’s military. https://www.rt.com/news/628244-eu-defy-trump-ukraine-peace/

If the EU wants to try to impose conditions that Russia will not accept, it would not lead to peace. But maybe the EU will decide it has to modify its proposal.

Trump’s signals to Zelensky and Europe: Accept this plan or you’re on your own

The 28-point plan hammered out by US and Russian envoys and put to Ukraine this week came with a deadline and an implicit threat: Sign up or face the risk of being abandoned.
US President Donald Trump said Friday that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky would “have to like” the US plan, suggesting he is in no mood to negotiate.
Since then, Trump has sent mixed messages, saying the plan was not his final offer but adding that if Zelensky did not accept it he could “continue to fight his little heart out.”
Zelensky recognized the stark choice in a somber speech to the nation on Friday, casting the plan as a choice between losing the United States as an ally and giving in to Russian demands, which many of the 28 points cater to.
If Kyiv were to lose US support, the consequences would be grave for its weapons supplies and access to intelligence, compounding existing crises: a lack of soldiers, a financial crunch and a deepening lack of confidence among Ukrainians in a presidency tainted by scandal.
Above all, rejecting the proposal would herald an existential separation from the US, with massive strategic implications for Ukraine and its European backers. Ukraine will not be able to stop Russian advances very long if it was on its own.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen urged in a statement that “Ukraine must have the freedom” to chose its “own destiny”, adding that the EU’s involvement in helping secure and maintain peace in Ukraine must be acknowledged and integrated into Ukraine’s peace plans. “The centrality of the European Union in securing peace for Ukraine must be fully reflected,” von der Leyen said, as she set out other key elements for any sustainable and lasting peace agreement in Ukraine.
This comes as Ukraine peace talks between Washington, Ukraine, and its European allies are under way on Sunday in Geneva, Switzerland.
EU sets out its key conditions
Speaking from Johannesburg Von der Leyen called for an end to the killing in Ukraine in a message to those meeting in parallel in Switzerland, she said, “Any credible and sustainable peace plan should first and foremost stop the killing and end the war, while not sowing the seeds for a future conflict.” …
Von der Leyen reiterated that Ukraine has chosen a European path and must remain free to determine its own future. The European Union is entitled to its own opinions, but without USA involvement, it has little it can do.

Europe could help extend support to Ukraine, but probably not with enough, long enough.

If Donald Trump does actually stop all support to Ukraine, that will send a stark message to Europe.

Even him threatening to do so must be impacting the leadership in Europe.

With both Russia’s Special Military Operation into Ukraine and Donald Trump essentially functioning as wake up calls for the Europeans, Europe will change.

Donald Trump’s statements and policies are accelerating European desires to be militarily and politically independent of the United States.

He has done so and caused much anger in Europe.[iv] He later upset them by being perhaps the best known non-UK supporter of Brexit.
In an online interview on November 13, 2024, former Greek Minister of Finance, Yanis Varoufakis, asserted that:
Donald Trump sees the European Union as a clear and present danger to the United States …
He has an agenda… essentially to make Brexit spread all over the European continent. [v]
Yanis Varoufakis also asserted that Donald Trump wants to break the European Union, so Europe needs to see Donald Trump as a threat and take action. [vi] Donald Trump reportedly wants Brexit to be a success for the UK as part of his plans to perhaps divide the European Union.[vii]
Well, one of the unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s hopes for Europe is that more in Europe want increased unity.[viii]
Many leaders also want more military strength.[ix] …
The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)—some statements by Donald Trump are pushing “friends” (NATO allies) into being enemies. …
As I stated on the radio back in 2016, I believe that Europe will cooperate with the USA as long as it feels the relationship is beneficial, and then (as prophecy foretells) turn against the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39; Lamentations 1:1-2). …
The USA will be attacked by “friends” consistent with the following:
1 How lonely sits the city
That was full of people!
How like a widow is she,
Who was great among the nations!
The princess among the provinces
Has become a slave!
2 She weeps bitterly in the night,
Her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers
She has none to comfort her.
All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).
Notice the one who was “great among the nations” will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.
The USA was prophesied to be “great” in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[x] …
Europe one day will turn on the USA (Lamentations 1:1-2, Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-12).

Yes, the Trump Administration has again upset the Europeans. Yes, the USA is pushing “friends” to be enemies.

The Bible shows that the coming European Beast power will be a warring entity that will shock the world:

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The above will be fulfilled and US President Donald Trump is inadvertently pushing Europe into taking steps to become that military power.
