Jesus gave a message known as the 'Sermon on the Mount' that was recorded by Matthew as well as reported by Luke. Many consider it the greatest sermon/message ever given. Several statements in it are known as 'Beatitudes.' What does that mean? Did Jesus teach those with certain characteristics were blessed and will enter the Kingdom of God? What does it mean to 'turn the other cheek'? What about mercy? What about being spoken evil against? Should Christians expect persecution? Is heaven the reward? Are we to strive to be pure of heart? If many of the first will be last and the last first, could that have to do with those in the first and second resurrections? Did Jesus foretell that many will speak well of false prophets? What did 2nd century Church of God leaders, like Polycarp of Smyrna and Ignatius of Antioch, write related to the 'Sermon on the Mount'? What about Herbert W. Armstrong, the old Plain Truth magazine, the old Good News magazine? Are we to obey the laws of God? Did Jesus come to magnify the law or eliminate it when He fulfilled it? What about loving God and your neighbor? Have Christians attained perfection? Are Christians supposed to strive for perfection as a priority? Should you pluck out your eye or cut off your hand if you are lustful? What did Jesus teach about divorce? What about vows and oaths? What did James write related to perfection? Dr. Thiel addresses these and other matters as he covers each and every verse in Matthew chapters 5 through 7 as well as related passages in the 6th chapter of Luke and elsewhere. This is the first part of a two-part sermon.
