Matters are escalating in the Middle East:

Russia said Tuesday one of its Su-24 fighter jets was shot down along the border between Turkey and Syria, but said “firing from the ground” was responsible for downing the plane.

Turkish military officials, however, said their F-16 jets shot down the plane after it violated the country’s airspace and ignored 10 warnings in the span of five minutes to leave. Russia’s defense ministry said the jet never left Syrian territory.

Video from the area showed what appeared to be two pilots parachuting down from the sky, and a Syrian rebel group later released its own video of what it said was one of the pilots and that he was dead.

Russia said only that its pilots ejected and their status was unknown. http://www.voanews.com/content/turkish-jets-shoot-down-warplane-near-syrian-border/3071322.html

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called Turkey’s decision to down a Russian warplane near the Syria border a “stab in the back.”

Speaking at a meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II, Putin on Tuesday accepted his condolences on the death of a Russian pilot who was reportedly captured and dead.

Putin said the Russian SU-24 jet was shot by a missile from a Turkish jet over Syria about 1 kilometer (just over a half-mile) away from the Turkish border, which he described as a “stab in the back by the terrorists’ accomplices.”

Putin warned that the incident would have “significant consequences” for its relations with Turkey and criticized Ankara for turning to NATO to discuss the incident instead of first explaining to Russia what happened.  http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/11/24/world/middleeast/ap-syria-the-latest.html?_r=0

While the focus of the news has been the Islamic State there is a lot more happening in the Middle East.

That being said, Russia is NOT about to rise up and fulfill Ezekiel 38, as some Protestant prophecy buffs think.

Turkey and Russia are not getting along, but that is not new.  The situation has been tense for some time, but this action is apparently not something that Vladimir Putin expected.  NATO will have meetings and the Russians will make plans.  There will be harsh words and some actions.

Yet, despite all this, it remains my position that because of the Islamic State, more will support the idea of a confederation of Arab states (for a time with Turkey) which will lead to the rise of the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40-43), who will cooperate in a major way with the final King of the North (Daniel 11:27; Psalm 83:3-8).  http://www.cogwriter.com/news/prophecy/russian-plane-shot-down-turkey-claims-responsibility/
